FAQ

WHO CAN WRITE MY PRESCRIPTION?

Healthcare professionals who can write a prescription for CPAP:

Any can write prescriptions of the following licensed professionals: MD (medical doctor), PCP (Primary Care Physician), Psychiatrist, Dentist, Doctor of Osteopathy, Physician's Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, or Naturopathic Physician. Prescriptions from Chiropractors, Optometrists, Podiatrists, and Psychologists are not acceptable unless the prescriber is also a licensed M.D. or D.O.

WHAT SHOULD BE ON MY PRESCRIPTION?
Prescriptions generally provided on a doctor's prescription pad, doctor's office letterhead, or printed prescription form. All orders must contain your doctor's signature, your doctor's contact information, the patient's full name, and a description of the therapy prescribed. If necessary, based on the treatment prescribed, we will set your CPAP/BiLevel machine to the recommended settings.

DOES MY PRESCRIPTION HAVE TO BE FROM A U.S. DOCTOR?
Generally, if your primary residence is outside the United States and you have a prescription from your doctor in that country, it should be valid for your purchase as long as it meets the requirements outlined above. If you are unsure if your prescription is correct, we would be happy to review it to ensure that it meets current FDA regulations for your purchase.

DOES MY PRESCRIPTION HAVE TO BE IN ENGLISH?
No. In most cases, we can accept prescriptions written in any language. In certain circumstances, we may request a certified translation generally provided in English. We will inform you after reviewing your order if this is the case.

DO I HAVE TO SEND A NEW PRESCRIPTION EVERY TIME I ORDER?
Once we have your prescription on file, we will keep it for all future orders. You do not need to send a new prescription every time you order. If we have your prescription on file, please note it in the comments section upon placing an order online or inform the sales representative on phone orders. If your required therapy has changed since your original prescription, please update your account or provide the new medicine to our team.

DO I NEED A NEW PRESCRIPTION OR WILL YOU ACCEPT MY OLD ONE?
In general, prescriptions for CPAP and Oxygen Therapy are valid for life, so your prescription will qualify regardless of how old it is. If you are unsure if your order is correct, we would be happy to review it to ensure that it meets current FDA guidelines for purchase.

Submitting claims to your health insurance for out-of-pocket CPAP and Oxygen expenses

The information below is only a guide of general instructions for filing an insurance claim on your own behalf for CPAP, BiPAP or oxygen supplies. Please verify with your insurance company prior to filing a claim. Contact the Member Services department of your insurance company to confirm that they allow subscribers to submit claims for medical expenses purchased out-of-pocket and find out their procedure for submitting claims. Most likely, they will have a Medical Claim Form for you to complete.

Many insurance providers require a HCPC (pronounced, “Hicks Picks”) code. This is an acronym for Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System and refers to the system of coding for services and equipment used by physicians, medical equipment suppliers, and insurance company’s code to be included with medical devices, supplies or equipment claims.

For your convenience we have provided a list of HCPCS codes below. Not all CPAP equipment is eligible for insurance reimbursement. Items such as CPAP bed pillows, batteries, and DC adapters are not covered and considered luxury items.

Attention Medicare Patients: Medicare does not allow patients to submit claims on their own behalf. These claims must be billed from a medical equipment company with a Medicare provider number.

Reimbursement (HCPCS) Codes
